This chapter considers the questions for recognizing the Earth's limits and for living responsibly on a finite planet, in light of the emphasis previous chapters have placed on our “responsible tenancy” on Earth. While there exists no single solution to these questions, the chapter proposes some guidelines for policy development, stating that such must be nationally developed, internationally negotiated, globally applied, and individually observed. The chapter thus offers ten outlines—in the vein of Moses' Ten Commandments as well as the tenancy metaphor employed throughout this book—for sustainable policies, including a footnote with a draft “contract clause” of tenant's responsibilities and obligations.

Keywords:   Earth, living responsibly, responsible tenancy, policy development, sustainable policies
