This chapter examines how the memory theater of the ghost world is consciously replaced with the memory theater of a new theatrico-religious paradigm of resurrection in William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. It begins with a discussion of ghosts that are conjured in The Winter's Tale, particularly Hermione's ghost, before turning to the play's new theatrico-religious paradigm of resurrection. It then considers the contours of remorse in the mind of the harmer in The Winter's Tale through the figure of Leontes, and how Shakespeare's resurrection theater is linked to an exploration of both penitence and repentance as modes of recollection and redemption, mediated through engagement with the resurrection narratives of forgiveness in the Gospels, the Easter liturgy, and the Mystery Cycles. The chapter concludes with an analysis of Shakespeare's theater of faith.
