This closing chapter summarizes the major findings of the book. The U.S. is currently experiencing a democratic deficit due to overbearing corporate influence in politics, but the advent of social media facilitates higher rates of consumer activism that curb corporate power. Consumer activism has become a central form of political participation in the U.S., one with significant, mostly positive, democratic implications.
